Do any of you guys use LPE 200 radios in RX Only mode? I know if I moved to Ottawa I would be on the hunt for a LPE... despite what many will tell you it is 100% possible to monitor provoice without affiliation.

If any ordinary prople around here is using LPE200's with
Option 29 it would one of those better-kept secrets. Anyway
until it's known if encryption is used, spending time/money on this
is probably not worth it. Etrunk and UniTrunker don't (can't)
give indication of ENC as that info is not transmitted explicitly
in the CC data.

Incidentally on TG 201, the dispatcher is analog and mobiles
are digital, at this point.

If I've learned anything over the past decade or so, since
Ottawa Police switched to Provoice in late 1997, is there are
other things to listen to besides cops (and pseudo-cops). OC
Security had its moments but the steady stream of hapless offenders
and suspects got to be tedious...

There is a free Linux software decode application that reportedly
does a good job on clear Provoice.

I have seen and heard OC Transpo analog I-call activity using
LID 120. Unitrunker also showed I-calls on LID 129, but this is
associated with Security TG 201 so it might be digital (have
monitored but hear nothing so far, so is inconclusive).

Unitrunker shows OC activity on LID 121, as well as 14, 19, and
21, besides the 123-128 range commonly used, associated
with various TGs.

Dave

Update: LID 120 I-call was just identified at "talkgroup" 7.

I have just observed OC Maintenance using TG 204 analog, patched to
TG 209 using patch 1991, also still linked to 410.6375 on the old system.

Looks like OC Security a.k.a. Transit Law (not Transport Law) dispatcher
is now digital, so there's nothing left to hear... unless you have the free decoding
software on your Linux PC, or LPE200 Option 29...

I heard action on Bylaw Channel 7 tonight, and this guy thought the other guy was on the wrong channel, as Lot 4 guy asked Lot 5 guy what his radio said, turns out it is actually titled "Parking Ops 1" on the Radio, and it seems to be the channel that the security guys at the Parking Garages uses.

Just some info someone can add to the Wiki.
