I just purchased used BCD325P2 that was programmed by the previous owner, and I am agog at the manual's instructions for programming and scanning. Is there an easier program for frequency entry for trunked and conventional systems?
Scancat?
Starrsoft?
Butel?
Or professional custom programming available by return UPS, FedEx or USPS?

Thanks in advance.

Proscan.

And learn to do it yourself. Paying someone else to program your scanner is like paying someone else to romance your wife. No one will be happy with the arrangement, except maybe the guy getting paid.

If you can post here, you can learn to program your scanner.

It really is easier than you think, if you know how to use a computer, you can easily program your scanner exactly how you like it.

I use FreeScan, as the name implies, it is free. It is fairly simple to figure out too. Too make it easier you will need a premium, account to Radio Reference so you can download the data bases. You can do it manually but it is time consuming and the membership isn't very expensive at all.

Pretty sure you need a paid membership for the other software too, so you would need it either way.

If you can't figure it out using the manual for the software or by looking up you tube vids hit me up and I will set aside some time to walk you through it. I own the same scanner you have.

FreeScan doesn't support DMR programming.

I didn't see where he said he needed DMR or the scanner was upgraded to receive it or not. But ya, Freescan is pretty basic and doesn't support some features. Maybe that is why it is free. I don't use DMR so Freescan works great for me.

I downloaded and installed. Both FreeScan, and ProScan. So I could compare them. ProScan(unless I missed it), can't transfer data via USB, only serial. I find that to be a big drawback to ProScan.

Before using ProScan or any other Computer Aided Scanning program, close the other so the comm. port will free up. In ProScan, go to the Comm. Port menu and click on Auto Detect. Select the port to use. If the scanner doesn't show up then go to the Device Manager and note the port assignment of the USB converter. Click Auto Detect again to see if the port is in use or available. If in use then another program is using it. If available and scanner not listed, then could be a cable problem. If available and scanner is listed then click on Set Selected Available Port button.

YES. I use ProScan and the supplied USB cable that comes with the 325P2. ProScan the 325P2 and the USB cable play nice together. No problem with ProScan and the 325 USB.

I've never seen a mini-USB plug on a cable with a db-9 or db-25 serial connection.. Not saying they don't exist, just never saw one.. regardless, Proscan works with any serial port.

Also, as the 325 has a built in serial port, plugging it into a non USB serial would be defeating the purpose.

All of the software communicates with the scanner using a serial port. When you connect the scanner's USB (for those scanners that use a USB connector) to the PC, the PC creates a virtual serial port (i.e. COM4 or similar). In the software you set to match that same COM port.
