the Ryan V F D is using a new type of paging system the freq 155.925is still used to set off our fire siren system for the town. those pagers are toned but not spoken across. after those pagers are toned the metrocall wireless cellular pagers are toned. if the sirens are not set off but the digital pagers are it is used for mutual aid only...

If ayou are a firefighter and are offered the chance at this typ of paging system please deny the offer all these pagers are good for is nothing. we will get toned out by siren and by the time we get halfway there my cell pager will start to tone

I have a MetroCall pager and they are a good service, however, their system was not designed with this sort of priority work in mind. There is nothing in place to give preferential treatment to any agencies' pages. Your fire call may be backed up in the que by dozens of ordinary pages. If your FD wants immediate service, they need to be using their own, dedicated paging system.

BTW, MetroCall is not cellular.

sounds confusing
short hand: 155.925 is still in use to set our fire sirens off but on mutual aid calls we may not set the sirens off we will only recive the pages on our metrocall pagers (931.2125)..

the metrocall pagers will not go off as soon as they get the call the page usually will take at least a min' to tone

I see!

My dept uses the metrocalls exclusively, and haven't had much trouble with them; although there has been a couple times someone "didn't get the page", but I don't know if that was metrocalls' fault

Metrocall exclusively? What in the world are they telling ISO?

ISO says that using a commercial paging system for notification is the
same as having NO NOTIFICATION!

OK for a department with an ISO of 9- but for anything better, it will result
in a decrease in your ISO, and an increase in your fire insurance for your
patrons.

I personally think that departments should look at digital paging for
their dispatch, but own the system yourself. The pagers are a tenth
of the cost of two tone pagers, and the infrastructure is actually cheap!

We need to chat...... For what you pay for say 10 pagers, per month, over 3 years, you
could most likely have your own digital paging system. NEW pagers cost around 40 bucks for alpha pagers. Almost any transmitter will do Pocsag 512 paging, and terminals in wonderful shape are available on the used market for pennies. Just dropping the lag time from using a commercial service should be worth that!
