I see biddeford has a new phase 2 system ..
Allegedly the pro 106 can't decode it.. I was at my tower, and tuned in on the control channel.. It gave me a total reading..
Off subject for a minute -----------
I have the Portsmouth naval shipyard trunk, Pease international trade port, and commnet... All 3 --p25 systems sound different than each other..
I can scan all 3 systems with the pro 106..
I don't know what type they're using....
I know commnet is phase 1...
Point is ---- are we positive the pro 106 can't decode phase 2?
Did anyone try, or are we going by what a sales man says?

I may no longer be a Biddeford local, but I can guarantee that my PSR-500--which is functionally equivalent to the PRO-106--will not decode APCO P25 Phase 2. Of course, it's a free country--give it a try!

I can't give it a try, cause I'm 30+ miles away, and (sometimes) it's easier to ask, rather than walk a mile up hill and hope for a signal..
otherwise, of course I'd be trying it.. But I need a positive phase 2 system to do so.. And I have nothing guaranteed nearby.
question -- did you try to scan any phase 2 systems, or are you just saying it won't?

Well, to be completely honest, I don't recall ever trying to monitor a phase 2 system with my PSR-500, but FDMA (phase 1) and TDMA (phase 2) aren't trivial signal differences. But don't take my word for it--take a gander at the RR Wiki for that model:

It shows that the 106 only receives Phase 1. And my last point, The 106 has been around for years, if it did receive Phase 2, I'm certain someone here would have noticed by now, and made a big deal that this model had added capabilities contrary to the scanner's operating manual.

Huh? Not certain how I merited that response, but let me say emphatically, that the PRO-106 will not receive Phase 2 signals.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

The Radio Shack Pro-106 is NOT phase 2 compatible. Sadly, the manual is not forthcoming with this info like most other scanner manuals are. I actually found the info on another RR post from someone with the same scanner.

If you try to listen to a phase 2 system with a phase 1 only scanner, from what I remember, you might hear some bits stuff but most of it will give you a sound like encrypted p25. I had an old buddy of mine do it with a bearcat 796D when Connecticut switched over to their phase 2 system. The BCD 796D does NOT do phase 2 either.

I just took a look at the size of Biddeford and then what they have for entities. They could have gotten away with a Phase 1 system. Unless Saco is joining them on that system, the radio company who is setting them up with this system must be laughing all the way to the bank.

I don't even think Phase ll tdma was even being used when the pro 106 made by GRE was introduced in 2007 ;)

Mother M set them up, so yes, they are laughing all the way to the bank. No, Saco is not joining. Sole source deal with nothing but the best... APX8000XE and APX NEXT. Glad I'm not a taxpayer in Biddeford.
