New police radio system being tested

Officials say a new emergency radio for local law enforcement is on schedule. The 800 megahertz system is designed to improve communication among Charlottesville, Albemarle and UVA police. 911 Center Director Tom Hanson says if all goes according to schedule ( and they ARE on schedule) it should be fully operational by September 26th. Hanson says four teams are now testing it in various grids.

I was returning from a work trip on Saturday morning and heard what I think was Charlottesville Fire working a call on the new TRS. It was digital traffic on about 4 different talk groups which I did not write down.

Anyone know if Charlottesville/Albemarle Co. are on the new system already? I was through there over Memorial Day weekend and testing was well under way.
