Those of you that follow the Baltimore county system take note - there's a BUNCH of new talkgroups on the database. Interestingly, there are several there that parallel Anne Arundel's system - wonder why?

There is actually not much net change. The higher order clusters of FD on-scene TGs have always been used when there are multiple incidents...the update in the database more or less clarifies how they will be utilized.........there is the radio re-designation of what was the "Garrison" Precinct to what now is the "Franklin" Precinct........I'm still unsure when the "Pikesville" Precinct will become active - anyone know about this? The ISU TGs have reflected this same precinct shift in the database.

One thing I am curious about is the TGs that were identified a number of months ago for Balt Co FD patch (mutual aid) into the City FD....anyone hearing comms on these??

Well I do want everyone to know that Baltimore County has had these Talkgroups all along.

However the County is prepareing to go to XTS-5000's Digital Portables(starting Weds.) and they cannot fit all of the x-5 and above tg's all in one zone. Since TG 1-x and 4-x, 2-x and 5-x and 3-x and 6-x will all be in the same zone. I know it is diffucult to understand with out seeing the Channel Plan.

They will be dispatching the TG# and Zone # for a while for those that have the new Portables.

As soon as I get the Portable Channel Plan I will post it.

**Also the reason why the County is going to the XTS 5000's is Inter-Operability(with other counties since most of Baltimore Co is surrounded by digital or will soon be) and the County Plans to go Digital with in the next few years**

Interesting. Thanks for the update. Might the County officers be able to directly access some of the city TGs w/ the new portables?

Perhaps we might actually start seeing use of the NPSAC freqs in this area in the near future. Much needed. Coordination (radio) between patrol units of the City & various counties has been null thus far.

For Police pursuits dave you might see the use of NPSPAC however with the XTS-5000's they can hold total 255 talkgroups so they may have the Capabilities to talk with that Jurisdicition on their radio system and not have to use NPSPAC

First of all, Nathan glad to see you didn't leave us!

Nathan, a small correction, the XTS 5000 radios have 512 channels in them. That's a heck of alot of space to fill up.

Dave, I read in the Baltimore Jewish Times a while back about the building of the new precint four. It looks like it'll be operational sometime in '05. The building is being built on patch of land up the street from the current Pikesville sub-station located at Riesterstown Rd. and Slade Ave. All they've done so far is clear away some trees and start to flatten the land. No actual building has been started yet.

So...

It looks like the channel plan (based on what Nathan has shared with us) looks like the Howard County Plan more than the city plan... I don't know if there is anything significant about that, just observing.

Okay this is what I've figured out so far.

11536-TG 150 (City TG C15) Note that I have never heard any activity on the other TG (151)

This TG is in actuality on the County system. However the City units have this TG in their radios. When the City unit switches to this TG, it's affiliating with theCounty system. When a County runs into the City they will switch over to TG 11536, then a City unit will come up on this TG to give the County unit specific directions/info etc. When a a County unit is running mutual aid for a large incident this TG, eventhugh it's part of the County system, it can somehow be patched into the City TG. (I don't know how the heck they do this, any info on this would be appreciatted.) When a City unit runs mutual aid into the County, the County dispatcher just patches TG 11536 into whatever TG they need the City unit on (i.e. TG 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.) Kapish??????

PS: The City dispatch consoles have this TG in them. It's really weird ( read, neat) hearing the City dispatcher talking on the County TG when the patch is up.

That's right Moe thanks for the clarification the MTS 2000 are the 255 channel units(my Bad)

Actually the MTS 2000's do only 160 channels. However I think there's a mod you can do fairly easily to get to to recieve 255 channels. The XTS 3000 portables amd Astro Sabers recieve 255 channels.

In my department, we have the MTS2000 and the STX 2500. There's a A, B and C switch on the upper left hand corner of the MTS's. I'm not sure of the location on the STX's But if the radios have been sync'd correctly, each setting can occupy a control channel and frequencies. In your case, The "A" setting may be the city's control channel and frequencies and "B" is the county's. And in the county, it may be the opposite. Our department went through a system changeover recently. The ending result to this was simply, switching the radios from "A" to "C", with the same talkgroups on both control channels.

Good info. Now...while we're on the subject of Balt Co 800.....we certainly hear MSP 39.56 patched into Co PD TGs often......but I don't think I have ever heard use of the dedicated "MSP PATCH" TG (ID 8048). Anyone heard use of this?

On the 8-Tac's .....each one has a corresponding "d" version......does this mean they have the option of using the 8-TAC freqs in simplex, without going through the towers? If so....would the simplex be on the 866-868 MHZ freqs or the 821 MHZ freqs?

Doctor Dave that is right they have the Capability to go direct instead of going thru the Repeater. When I had the Harford Co. Portable it was like that in that radio and the Protocols state that once they get on the scene they are to go direct and not use the Repeater.

Also Moe Harford County only has HA 1 & HA 2 as Command Channels they do not have anything past 3
