I have a new pro-106 and radio schaak was not much help with software but i found "radioreference to be great ! The problem im having other than to be out of the scanner loop for a few years is I cant seem to upload my "choices or anything from the 20-047 usb cable that radio schaak sold me it says "timed out" or "check connection!" Im pretty confident with my computer but maybe the drivers are not installed properly or this cable does not support the pro-106 they told me it would even though it does not list it . Does anyone have the same problem? or do you recommend an alternative?? I did try to download the drivers online also and using the disk but to no avail! and also using the adapter plug and not the plug 3" extension for stereo/headphones etc. Thanks for any help.....Happy new year to my new scanner buddys!!

The cable works with the 106 so thats not the problem and on my win xp it had the drivers in windows already. dont know what software you use but they all have an option to select the comport, I am guessing you selected the wrong port, look in the device manager and find the right port no

Happy New Year and welcome to forum.

With cable plugged into USB, check device manager in Ports (COM & LPT) for USB to Serial Port number.

I had no problem using the RS 20-047 USB cable. I ran the 106 and the cable on my windows vista and again on my windows xp with-out any problem. Depending on which programming software you are using, when the USB cable is hooked up to the pc, and the scanner is ON, open up the folder in your programming software that has the serial port options. I am using both demo versions, I have PSRedit500 and I went to CONFIGURATION FOLDER, then went to SERIAL PORT OPTIONS, when serial port configuration opens click on BEGIN SEARCH FOR PORT. It will automatically begin a search for the available port... it should find the one your plugged into on the pc, and it tells you which one it has found. Click on ACCEPT, and it should save it as a valid path.

When I began my demo version of WIN500 software, I clicked on the CONFIGURATION folder, then clicked SERIAL PORT. a box opens and lists a total of 5 com ports. I did not see a search for com port box, so I tried each option individually, to see which one of the 5 listed worked. Port 5 came up available and operational in my case, and I clicked save. If this method doesnt work for you, I am sorry, and I just wanted you to know that niether my xp or my vista required the disc that came with the RS USB cable. I guess the RS 20-047 is a newer type of cable, and the cable drivers were probably already in my pc or not needed. Try downloading the driver disc that came with the 20-047 cable. Double check device manager, and also try another USB port if there is one available on your pc. If that still doesnt work, try returning the USB cable for a new one. I hope this helped in some way.

I just posted about not being able to connect my pro106 to PC using the USB cable - I was a bit hasty and after re-reading some of what the others have written I tried again. Seems I was still too focused on how my pro162 connects... When I just followed what others said by just connecting the device to the cable/pc while my pro106 was powered on - and by checking in the Windows OS device manager to verify the USB/Serial comport mapping and then using that value in the ARC500 software connection dialog - it worked wonderfully. Now I can go play - I love all the features available and the virtual control !
