Yeah... I fully agree with everyone else about getting the cable and software. It opens up a whole new world for these scanners. Make that the next accessory purchase on your list.
RS employees know these scanners are complicated, they can't figure them out themselves, and tend to blame users for all of the faults since they can't help. In reality, they are pretty much bulletproof. About the only way you're going to hurt them is via physical damage.
