Thanks for taking a look, any help that will put all this in english is great!

Heres my background

I live in Gadsden AL, county Etowah, i own a PRO160 scanner from RS.

I have read every post and dont seem to be getting any great answers, so ill break it down.

I live on top of a wooded mountain, next to a cell phone tower, will this at all affect my signal that I would be receiving, I seem to get a better signal next to the window, then across the room?

RS programmed the "local freq" in but it seems to cut out every few seconds while they are in the middle of talking, (one person transmitting that is), what can i do to fix this?

Gadsden PD is running EDCAS, what is this, and can I or how do I program this into my scanner?

On some of the items it calls for TRS, what is that as well?

RS gave me a copy of all FREQ. that were entered under Scancat.

any help on this will get me started and hopefully not having to take it back...

oh one more, i see alot of people have pics of their scanners, but why do you have so many, dont they all pick up the same things?

Wow, that's a lot of questions. I'll take a stab at helping. Welcome to the scanning community. It's a fun hobby with a LOT to learn (if you want) or you can keep it pretty simple.

Probably not much to worry about on the cell tower thing. You'll get widely varying signal strength by moving the radio around. The trick is to find the best spot. An outside antenna is better than inside.

You probably have a priority on. Weather is a common one. Turn that off and this issue will stop. Lots of posts in this forum on that.

EDACS is a type of Trunked Radio System (TRS) You can program this into your scanner. Motorola is another common type. There are several. Read the Trunking forum or Wiki to learn more about trunking.

RS gave me a copy of all FREQ. that were entered under Scancat.

Two answers at once now: That list might be helpful. The Radio Reference Database will be even more helpful.

Like many things in life, more is better! Having more scanners is sometimes a matter of technology changing over time. In my case I have scanners in multiple locations to listen to (car, bedroom, family room, basement). Sometimes it's nice to have several scanners in one place at the same time, each dedicated to monitoring a specific thing (ie one for fire, one for police, one for another police dept, one more for something else, etc.). That helps you keep up with more things simultaneously and completely.

On your other post, your frequencies are entered separately from the Talkgroups in a different, but similar way.

Read the forums, ask questions, you'll get the hang of it.
