Agree with everything Paul said above. It is a quid pro quo exchange with zero contractual obligation. If someone feels like they want to pull the plug on their contribution for whatever reasons, there is no bill, no penalties, no hidden fees. Just your quiet departure. Probably hopefully.
There are so many more similarly structured sites in this general hobby that operate on this model. I contribute to numerous ADSB platforms (They don't play any nicer with each other than the various broadcast platforms), and I receive in exchange whatever tier of "exclusive" membership that site offers at whatever the professed value is. Honestly I probably wouldn't be a paid subscriber out of pocket. If I lived on a coast I would choose to contribute AIS data to the major maritime trackers, and get something similar. One of those is a multi billion dollar company hat would almost assuredly profit in some way from data fed to it. Would I feel taken advantage of there either?
No. My cost to enter this stage of digital data amalgamation can be amortized across multiple platforms that I receive benefit from, over multitudes of years at this point. So I spent a couple bucks this month on "gifting" RR with data they could potentially be profiting from. Even if I lived in an area with the most valuable radio traffic in the world, that zero other users were able or willing to contribute, what slice of the pie does that ultimately make up for RR et al?
