As I was driving into work today, the route I take takes me past Roanoke PD. They usually have their cruisers out front and I noticed this morning there was a differently colored Roanoke one. At first I was thinking, well that must be one visiting from another city, but it had Roanoke written on it. Can anyone comment on this?

Yes, they are switching back to a "black and white" color scheme. I was hoping to have a picture soon but don't have one yet. I know they have at least one car painted in the new scheme that they have been showing around for the last few days.

I understand they have the city "brand" on them as well.

I haven't see the new city scheme yet but if your around Botetourt, the Sheriffs office has switched to a new scheme also. Looks a lot like the Roanoke City Sheriff cars I think, but it looks better than the plain star and strip in my opinion.

I will attempt to get some more info on the new Roanoke City Police car paint scheme next week. I was working at the PD today installing some software and hoped to see one of the new cars there. Unfortunately, the only cars in sight were all the old paint scheme. I am not sure if they have more than one car painted now. Anyway, I will be away for the next 4 days. I will see what I can find out when I get back to work.

John,
Since I saw the new cruiser that one day I have yet to see it again and I drive by the HQ every day on my way to work. Guess they aren't shifting over anytime soon.

This from the city newsletter:

Police News

Department redesigns patrol cruisers. The Police Department is moving forward with plans to redesign its marked patrol cruisers. The department will eventually redesign approximately 110 cruisers at the following cost per vehicle:

Removing old decals and repainting, $1,000
Graphics installation, $200
Cost of producing graphics, $345

Berglund Body Shop will paint the cruisers and Matthew’s Specialty Vehicles of Greensboro, North Carolina will make the decals. Five new district cars will be the first to be redesigned. The vehicles, which are highly visible in their districts, will also have the new digital DVR cameras and new Panasonic CF-29 laptop mobile computer terminals. No more than five vehicles at a time will be taken out of the fleet to be redesigned. The cost of this project will be paid for by asset forfeiture funds, not operating capital.
