Department redesigns patrol cruisers. The Police Department is moving forward with plans to redesign its marked patrol cruisers. The department will eventually redesign approximately 110 cruisers at the following cost per vehicle:
Removing old decals and repainting, $1,000
Graphics installation, $200
Cost of producing graphics, $345
Berglund Body Shop will paint the cruisers and Matthew’s Specialty Vehicles of Greensboro, North Carolina will make the decals. Five new district cars will be the first to be redesigned. The vehicles, which are highly visible in their districts, will also have the new digital DVR cameras and new Panasonic CF-29 laptop mobile computer terminals. No more than five vehicles at a time will be taken out of the fleet to be redesigned. The cost of this project will be paid for by asset forfeiture funds, not operating capital.
