hi, remember me...
...the guy that last year said Rome was going to put their EDACS system to bed with a new UHF trunking system and that some of you said that I had only half the correct information about it? well I guess it took me this long to get, as Paul Harvey would have said, the rest of the story.
STRAIGHT from the mouth of the fella who runs the local radio shop around here and is putting this new system in place, as he stated and these were his words, "it's a digital system that can't be listen to with radio scanners". there are two tower sites in the city and testing is going to be conducted on it within the coming month, with the former 800 MHz system going silent. as such, unless you have one of this fella's whiz-bang radios, no one in scannerland - myself included - will be able to monitor. he didn't say what the format of the system was; I am naturally assuming with the same vendor's work at the local Indian casino being MPT1327, that's my guess. ok, so I don't have the complete "rest of story" but it was pretty darn close to what I told you all back last April. and before you jump on my head and down my throat, I do know that you can monitor MPT1327 with Winradio. since I can't even hear Rome now as it is from my house I'm not going to be missing anything after the switch.
so if you are in earshot of Rome's EDACS today, enjoy what you can hear for now because by the end of September it'll be gone.
