Yep the 996P2 has the DMR and Provoice updates too. At an additional cost for each!

I really have not stayed on top of the technology. Mostly stuff works though I did jump on the 996p2 rather fast when they came out, the BCD536 and even the 436 are OK, but the 536 bugs me and I don't really luse the home patrol feature, have not even really figured it out.

I am not happy they are banging us per radio, could find a way to do it by owner, in my opinion, but, it is what it is. I think. :-/

Uniden must pay licensing and royalty fees for each unlocking key issued for each type of upgrade on every radio that those upgrades are installed on.

I've been listening to the 996P2 all day and into the evening and night. I can't wait to start diving into the new bells and whistles on this thing over the coming days. Just doing the quick import of mostly conventional FM/NFM local traffic, it's pulling stuff up on channels I would have swore were defunct and no longer used. The sensitivity is off the hook compared to my HH's, and that's just with the stock antenna. Absolutely floored by its performance.

Can't say enough good things about this radio. I'll definitely be looking into the DMR upgrade (don't think we have any ProVoice stuff in my neck of the woods yet, but good to know it's there if/when I need it.) Very, very pleased! Good show, Uniden!

You'll probably not see Provoice if it isn't currently in use on a local EDACS system, but you can expect to see lots more DMR popping up!

I spent a good chunk of yesterday afternoon programming the rig, and while I'm not quite finished I am quite happy with the results so far. What really blew me away was checking the memory after I was all done uploading everything. So far, 479 channels, 15 systems, 15 sites, and I'm using 1% of the total memory. I repeat...that's one percent. This thing not only isn't breaking a sweat yet, I've barely tickled it!

Yeah, this was a good buy! No regrets at all! :D
