new scanner please help

grand prairie
i was given a uniden bear cat bc245xlt. i hear mostly dallas fire and dallas police . but i would like to hear grand prairie police and fire. iam not shure how to do it. the manual is kinda confusing. and i dont know what the frequency are. is there a way to set it so it will automaticly find and store the gp police and gp fire. any help would be great thanks george

If you type in the city or county you want frequency's for there are web sites out there. When you type in the city be sure to ask for the frequency's. Like Dallas emerengy frequency's

While your BC245 will not receive Grand Prairie, there are a number of other possibilities for listening, in addition to Dallas PD & Fire. There's still quite a large number of conventional frequency usage in Dallas County. Tarrant, Johnson, & Ellis Counties also have a number of users that are not trunked. As for trunked radio systems, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, and a couple of small federal systems are the only ones in this area that are digital, as is Tx DPS (not on a trunked system, but digital on conventional frequencies). You could still put that 245 to use with multiple conventional frequencies, and neighboring trunked systems such as Arlington, Irving, Fort Worth, and the NE Tarrant County systems. Other systems within your scanners capability include the Carrollton and Mesquite trunked radio systems.

Richardson, Mesquite, Garland, Collin Co, Denton Co, ETMC Waxahachie, ect so on and so fourth.
