New Scanner

Hello scanner land,My brother who lives in Bourbonnais ILL asked me about getting a new scanner and what I thought he might need.I told him I would have to ask the EXPERTS, so that is what I am doing.
I know the State police are on Star Com. Is any thing else in that area going to Star Com ? or would he be ok with just buying a trunk tracker ? What kind of scanner he should buy ?

In Kankakee County most police and fire ops are on the KanComm system, an analog Motorola trunked system. There is still some VHF usage as well.

Other than state agencies there are no users of StarCom21 in Kankakee County at this time. The closest other digital users are in McLean or Champaign County.

If he wants to follow StarCom21 then he should get one of the GRE or Uniden digital scanners (PSR500, PSR600, BCD396T or BCD996T).

If he is not interested in state police then he should be OK with an analog scanner, of which there are many to choose from.
