Hello,

I don't know anything about what Radio Shack is planning, but Uniden is going to announcing something on 9/30. I can't tell you anything about what that will be, but we can hope for ..........(insert your wish here)

We need a base version of the 396. That would be awesome!

I want a scanner that's so good that I'll never ever want another scanner.

I'd go along with a scanner that could be flash upgraded for anything that may come along. I'd want it to be really solid, though - BCD396T-type belt clip, waterproof metal case, replaceable battery charger module, everything possible done in software ...

Of course that would require hardware technology that hasn't been invented yet. (Sub-microvolt sensitivity wasn't possible in the 60s, and you can't increase sensitivity in software ... yet.)

why in the world would you want to keep buying scanner after scanner imagine the thousands of dollars you just spent , then to top it of you go out and buy a new 396 and the new uniden 496trackerXX ( being sarcastic ) comes out and its 600.00 , but you just spent 530.00 , cmon make a kickass scanner and make it upgradeable even if you have to pay 19.95 for the upgrade im sure people would.
and as far as provoice ..... give it time it will happen

I want a base version of the 396. But I don't want it to look ugly.

I guess I am expecting a base version of the BCD396T as well.

I agree with the need to start making these things more upgradable. I thought the Digital Card insert in the BCD785 was gonna be the start of this but I guess not. I don't mind upgrading the firmware via software, but having to ship these things back in to the company is untenable.

The thing with having one scanner that can do it all is that you still can only listen to one freq / tg at a time...unless you have a ham type radio that has dual watch...by owning multple scanners, you can listen to alot of stuff at once. So ill always keep collecting...

How about a 24 hour battery? Oh ya and make it small. Nano scan. Keep it anywhere and people will hear voices telling them about pursuits, robberies, fires etc. That would be fun.

Oh to dream is where the future scanners come from. It isn't that long ago I remember saying gosh it would be nice to be able to just read who is on which channel instead of remembering the frequencies. And now...Wow, how far we've come.

Upgrades are getting easier and easier. Imagine a scanner that connects automatically using cellular communications or any wireless network to update itself instantly without user assistance at all. Just think how often it would update if Bill Gates was involved :)

I would like a base version of the 396T. Would like it to have longer alpha tags. Would also like display color options . Push a button it lights up red or orange or blue or green or whatever color.

Good Scanners/ Not so good Manuals

Instead of new scanners, uniden would be better concentrating on a decent manual, to go with them.

Better yet, how bout any police comms could be programmed to light up blue, fire..red.. medical, green... etc.
(As long as we're brainstorming...)
