I went ahead and got the 820S.

It will make a difference decoding weak P25 800 MHz signals.

With the SDS100's stock antenna there's no signal or decoding the Howard P25 signal.

Using the Remontrix 820S, the signal is weak but decoding occurs.

It's a great scanner.

Be careful about securing the battery latch clip, always press down firmly all the way before securing the clip.

I was always careful to do this and yet still the clip broke in two.

My SDS100 was returned to Uniden three days ago for this issue to be fixed and to replace its faulty rotary encoder (it was skipping very badly)

The rotary encoder on my SDS100 actually started to fail within months of receiving it but I waited too long to return it for repair under warranty.

So keep an eye out for that, even the odd skipping, because it gets a lot worse with time.

An update on the repair of my SDS100 (replacement of malfunctioning rotary encoder and broken battery clip):

Just received my SDS100 back from Uniden

Turnaround time from date of shipment to Uniden = 3 weeks and 3 days
