Didn't the added ground wires help to reduce the problem? Was that added later in production, as it looks like an afterthought, but it wasn't done properly in some scanners?

I think the fix jonwienke was refering to was the copper tab that was wedged into the case and the internal circuit framework. However I thought that was just something Uniden was mailng out for end users to install. I don't recall that Uniden themselves were installing any on production units before shipping them to dealers or customers, possibly just units sent in for repair.

Uniden is now shipping product with the copper tab installed. But, it is not a firm fix as people have reported the hum with the tab installed - either right out of the box or developing later (as if the tab moved or contact was lost when the radio heated up.) The fix developed by user StaticDischarge where soldermask is removed and, I think, a wire is added is a true fix, but requires the user to install. Uniden has been silent about it unfortunately.

Just received my new SDS200 Purchased from Amazon vendor Webtron-X. Doesn't seem to have the hum, at least not as far as I can tell. I have not yet opened it to see if it has the "Factory Fix".

The serial number is 384Z98000959, according to the label on the rear of the scanner. The S/N label on the box omits the first four digits. The serial number shown when you go into the "See Scanner Information" menu has additional digits; and the "Z" in the S/N is shown there as the number 2. Don't know if that's an error, or on purpose for some other reason.

The serial reported by the scanner firmware substitutes 3 digits for the Z on the laber serial, for reasons known only to Uniden.
