Yes ... and no.

The license simply covers a Viper trunked site on the Brunswick plant (Progress Energy / CPL) premises. The fact that the license only covers 5 frequencies gives an indication that the site will be the standard bread 'n butter Viper site.

Although the location on the plant premises might provide increased security to the site equipment, it's probably safe to assume that this site might go down quickly if a major event occurs at the plant.

I also have to feel sorry for what the radio techs may have to go through to put this site into operation, as the level of security when entering some of the plants can be extensive, particularly if you are entering an operations area.

In one plant I go to, I have to bring my truck through several check points. In one secured holding area, I have to pull enough of the equipment off the truck so that each interior wall in the cargo area can be swabbed for explosive residue.

It's not that good. If you knew what condition some of the coastal waters were really in, you'd never eat any of it. Trust me.............:(

868.6500?

I compared the 5 frequencies listed on the new license WQET821 for NCSHP at Southport, against the RRdatabase for NC viper system. 868.6500 is not listed at any existing location. Also did aNC freq. search on FCC, no listing.

Correct.

Incorrect. Doing a state / frequency search in the ULS database, the frequency is licensed to the State of NC for sites in Brunswick and Rockingham Counties, as well as the Wake and Charlotte / Mecklenberg trunked public safety systems.

confused!!

JEFF! Sorry for the mis-post of my thread. I know that 868.6500 is a new freq. for Brunswick Co. In your previous thread you indicated that this was possibly a "viper" site.
I scrolled to the bottom of the N.C. data base and entered the freq. for all N.C.identified freqs.by freq. Results were: conventional data search: none, trunked data search none. I did not realize that this was a saerch of the RR data base, NOT the FCC data base.
In your post#2 you indicated that this was probably a "viper" system. I am confused! are there 800 trunked systems for NCSHP that are not" Viper" ?

As has been posted before here, not all 800 sites within the state's plan are VIPER sites. The great majority are just bread and butter trunking sites. It's only a VIPER site if it has shared interoperability talkgroup capabilites, and it's not a Tactical VIPER site unless it's equipped with the ACU-1000 interoperability infrastructure. Just as an aside, an example of shared sites is the one at the fairgrounds in Raleigh. That site actually belongs to Wake County, but it has all the qualifications as a full Tactical VIPER site because it has shared talkgroups within the Wake County infrastructure, state infrastructure and talkgroups, and the ACU-1000 interops infrastructure.
