Was there a text story or just video? I ask because it was still loading and I just closed it, don't have lots of time to sit for video when I like text stories better.

One reason I don't watch the news :D

Orbit Downloader is great for saving the .FLV (Flash Video) files on our website, and VLC Media Player works wonders for viewing them later.

123 shot the story, and I was tending to Master Control when it aired. Small world.

Got me on that one, I am not a native, so to me it is McMinn.

If you think MAC Minn is bad, I know some one who worked at the Meigs county court house a few years back, and they actually had a filling cabinet labeled Mags county.

Great concept. The reporter says it's the largest consolidated system in the country. Wouldn't some of the state systems currently up and running be the largest consolidated systems??

Is this a 700mHz system or rebanded 800mHz? I thought I heard someone say 800 in an interview but we here in Sullivan County are going 700...I think. What a mistake that would be. My further understanding is that these 700mHz radios are in a warehouse here in Bristol just waiting for installation.

Re:

Yes, this new system will use 700 and 800 MHz frequencies. Current systems in Chattanooga, Athens Utilities, Knoxville etc. will be integrated into this system and eventually be phased out in the next few years.
Keep in mind the grants pay for the system - the individual counties will have to buy their own radios, which they can of course get grants for through the State and U.S. Homeland Security, along with other grant programs specifically targted to cops, firefighters, etc.
Rhea County should be the next TN county to sign interagency agreements, like in the next week or so. Other counties will follow in the not-too-distant future. Chattanooga already has a lawyer assigned to handle the legal/paperwork issues for the system.
Remember, until rebanding is finished (end of year) and the 700MHz spectrum is freed of broadcasters (February 2009) you won't see any 700 activity. After that, scan da' band every now and then and listen for control channels.
Also keep in mind that the current generation of Motorola radios that do 800MHz also work on 700MHz...the XTL and XTS series are dual band.
BG..
