Ran UniTrunker on the Frederick County site (001-009). Have a new peer showing up which isn't in the RR Database --

Site 001-031
Control Freq -- 161.8125 (04-2325)

any ideas on it's location?

When I increase the gain in SDR# I can "see" the control channel from my location but it's not strong enough to decode it.

I am thinking maybe site 001-031 might be a site in Warrenton. This is just a pure guess. From looking at the STARS google map of the sites it looks like Warrenton may be a good site for voice traffic instead of just microwave as it was originally setup for.

I can only receive the Dumfries site from home and I don't see site 001-031 as an adjacent site on Pro96Com. Maybe the Independent Hill site would show 001-031 as an adjacent site but I can't receive it at all.

I've got Independent Hill decoding with my Pro106 now. It's showing a frequency change from what's in the DB.
DB has
151.02500
151.37000
152.54750
159.12000
159.22500

Pro96Com is showing
151.02500
151.37000
152.54750
158.81250
159.22500

No site 131 for a neighbor. Nor for Mt Weather so I'd say it's not likely on the east side of the mountains.

And not even Fork Mountain which is showing 15 adjacent sites.

Elliott Knob maybe? Anyone in Harrisonburg to decode the sites around there?

I am just guessing too, but I think it would have to be in that area if it is associated with the Frederick Co. site. The Harrisonburg site also uses this frequency as the primary control channel. Maybe Warrenton would be far enough away and across the mountain ridges where the two sites would not interfere with one another.

158.8125 mhz. is the alternate CC frequency for Independent Hill. In order to hopefully document all the frequencies used for a particular STARS site Pro96com usually has to be run continously for a multi-day period. This is because a particular voice repeater frequency assigned by the system controller may be related in part to the volume of voice traffic at a particular time on the trs in addition to other unknown reasons. That's been my experience.

Give me a couple of days when I have some time off and I'll see if I can grab something. I am not very good with Pro96com, but we'll see what happens:lol:

I thought I had Elliott in my scanlists... but I don't see it in the database. I'll also have to go back and see what that list is.

After a little bit of searching around the fcc site; I believe this new site (001-031) is going to be at Elliot Knob in Staunton, VA (Augusta County).

I found a new trunked license (WQTZ282) with the Virginia Department of State Police as the Licensee.

It was granted on 5-12-2014.

Transmitter Location is 2.4 MI W OF CHAPIN NEAR JUNC. OF NORTH MTN TRAIL & ELLIOTT KNOB
STAUNTON, VA AUGUSTA County

Lat/Lon - 38° 09' 55.0" N, 079° 18' 49.7" W

I think Elliott is going to be too close to the Harrisonburg site for the same frequency. In my scanner, I have 152.5625 for Elliott. I don't remember why I suspected this was Elliott, but it was something I was testing.

I checked Elliott Knob on Pro96Com from nearby on Memorial Day Weekend Showed site CC 152.5625, site#231. Alt CC 152.5715, vc 159.1875

There seem to be a number of new sites coming online, but they may have limited coverage compared to the earlier sites. Filling in holes, so to speak. They may be more directional as well, so picking them up should be interesting. I can't remember exactly what the 'neighbor' list was for 231, but it was tied to sites south of Augusta Co., as well as Harrisonburg, so I'd say it's pretty unrelated to sites up around Winchester, Warrenton, etc.

I am still thinking the new site showing up is going to be in the Warrenton-to-NOVA area. Any further south closer to Harrisonburg would likely cause issues with the frequency.

Thanks, Allen. I remember now why I had it as Elliott. I am receiving Elliott Knob with a strong signal from my residence in Bridgewater as well as at work close to Elkton- which is surprising to me.

Nope

Did you not read this?

I would most likely be able to receive a site in Warrenton. And it would show up as an adjacent site to Ind. Hill, Mt WX, Fork Mt, and Fairfax at least.

I've just checked Hogback Mt and it is showing site 131 on 161.8125.
Also showing Harrisonburg on 152.7275 Status=Failed, Current

I've run Pro96com this morning on the "Harrisonburg" site as listed in the DB. 161.8125 from my location is now showing as site 31. Used to be site 110. Same results as you with the failed status for Harrisonburg. 152.7275 CC for Harrisonburg (110) listed is an alternate in DB, and there is no CC activity on that frequency.

Did Harrisonburg change to site 31 or is it now another location, such as Massantten? Massanutten is a planned site. With the Rawley site to the west, Bear Den to the south, and Massanutten coming on line, maybe a site at Harrisonburg (Area 16 office) was not deemed necessary.

In addition to site 001-31 (161.8125) which a location hasn't been pinned down for yet I see site 001-030 (159.1800) as a peer to site 001-008 (Hogback Mtn). 001-030 isn't in the RR DB either.

Not that this may be related but VSP did add 1 or 2 transmitters to the top of the Westin here in Virginia Beach, heard that from our repeater guy when he went up to replace our VHF repeater. Haven't had a chance to look and see what exactly is going on up there but I do know they added something.

New Westin STARS site

Westin is one of the new "Gap filler" STARS sites funded and scheduled for installation. Pro96com needs to be run occasionally on a recurring basis in the 150.775-153 mhz. and the 161.800-162 mhz. ranges to id the new control channel frequency and subsequently document the site's voice/data frequencies and neighboring sites.
