I know what you mean about those SMALLER market TV stations. Most of them are just a skeleton operation with minimal staff to cover the news. They just bring in whatever the networks and cable news stations are feeding on the satellites.
Several of those major stations in the San Francisco Bay Area converged on the fires in Santa Cruz County. KGO radio and TV channel 7 had satellite trucks in the area for several days. KTVU 2 and KRON 4 were here too. We didn't see very much front line coverage on the local NBC or CBS affiliates just across Monterey Bay, except what they could get from the Networks in New York or from FOX News Channel and CNN.
KSCO 1080 abandoned it's usual syndicated talk shows and took fire reports from their local callers in the fire zones. People with scanners provided more information to the newsroom.
