New statewide system

The state of Vermont has awarded Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) with a $14 million contract to deploy a statewide radio system for public safety fist responders and other state agencies, otherwise known as Project 25 or P25.
"Vermont's vision for our public safety communications is clearly addressed by the Harris P25 solution, which also allows us to leverage our existing infrastructure," said Chief J. Paul Duquette, Chair, Vermont Communications (VCOMM). "When completed, the VCOMM system will be a modern and reliable system for Vermont public safety agencies that meets federal mandates and will support Vermont's growing public safety communications needs well into the future."

Interesting. Only $14 million in a mountainous state?

I wonder if Chief Duquette (obviously a radio communications expert) will be able to make the same comment after it costs millions more and performs less than expected.

Thanks for that link. It looks as if Vermont, unlike many other states who have gobbled up the 700/800 MHz hype, has used common sense in their approach to a state-wide system. The System Overview has all the details.
