Lawrence Township Station/apparatus numbers changed over today. What the Star didn't report was the renumbering This is NOT due to any anticipation of a merger. IFD is switching to a new RMS system that requires unit identifiers to only have 4 characters,

And the stations are still Lawrence Township and NOT IFD

Sorry but All Lawerence Township Fire Stations are now under the New IFD Station numbers.I spoke with a Lt with Lawerence Township Fire Depatment who is a family friend he did confirm that the stations are now IFD stations. He did confrim that there will be a "Merger".You are correct but when a new station gets a new station number the trucks get new truck numbers to go along with the new stations number*Look at The old Washington Township Fire Department now IFD. Station 222 is now Station 12, Station 221 is now Station 21, Station 223 is now IFD Station 6, Station 224 is now IFD Station 4, and Station 225 is now IFD Station 8*

You are missing the point. Even though they have "IFD #s" now they are still Lawrence Township Fire. Not IFD. There will be a merger but its not going to be official for some time still.

Doesn't look like its IFD stations.... looks more like its LTFD stations to me...

Lawrence fire houses get new numbers

In a move that could lead the Lawrence Township Fire Department closer to a merger with the Indianapolis Fire Department, the numbers of its fire stations have been changed.

"This is a small change, but it demonstrates that the merger process between Lawrence Township and IFD is moving forward," Fire Chief Mike Blackwell said in a statement from his office.

Lawrence Township Station 331, at 6260 E. 86th St., has been renumbered Station 9. Station 332, at 7139 E. 75th St., will now be called Station 17. Station 333, at 10190 E. 86th St., has been changed to Station 28, and Station 334, at 7620 Oaklandon Road, has become Station 34.

The change is needed to prepare for a potential merger of Lawrence Township and IFD.

Representatives of both departments have been discussing a merger for the past two months. A merger could take place within the next year, and a public meeting on the merger before the Lawrence Township Board could occur in a few weeks.

This is for the possible merger with IFD they have done this with the other township radio and Fire ID # to aline with the current IFD # system note the change falls in line with IFD # listed. Merger to happen some time in 2010 been in works for a while and a lot of political twisting to merg the townships in they do not go to the trouble of major changes like this if it is not going to happen. Note list is current untill LWTSP changes ID's

The Airport sometimes uses the extra 9, when dispatching other times it's just the last two numbers,

They had to renumber because IFD Communications is switching to a new RMS system that requires unit identifiers to only have 4 characters.

The CAD currently displays units as E08, M21, TSU31. After the change, units will be identified like EG08, MD21, TS31.

LTFD has always been dispatched at MECA.

If that is the reason for the change then won't Pike, Beech Grove, Speedway and the Airport have to change from 3 digit to 2 digit, not to mention MECA sometimes dispatches Plainfield and Avon to assist and they use 3 digit numbers as well.

*MECA is not dispatching Plainfield and Avon.*What you are hearing is a dispatch for Hendricks County Communications to dispatch Plainfield and Avon to assist Marion County.Hendricks County Communications takes care of dispatching Avon and Plainfield.I hear engine 885 assiting Hendricks Co Fire All the time and When IFD dispathes E885 the dispatch says "Check MDT for radio channel".Plainfield and Avon on on Safe-t(Not MECA) but when Hendricks County needs assistance from Marion County you will hear the Marion Co Units on Hendricks County safe-t talkgroups working with them*.IFD has been putting this out since they went on MECA*.Hendricks County Communications has a monitor set up to mointor the talkgroup for IFD dispatch in there communications center. When you hear the dispatch Hendricks County hears it to and will dispatch on there Safe-t talkgroup. This is called "Mutual aid" as 154.280 Fire Point to point is no longer used or monitored in Metro Indianapolis/Marion County by MECA Control Operators.

I know Pike will have to renumber so I can only assume that Speedway & Beech Grove will as well. I haven't heard anything about the Airport but they would only have to drop the extra 9.

Airport Fire is now being Dispatched by IFD on there Talkgroup on MECA with "RoboReta".Also IFD is dispatching Lawerence City fire on there Talkgroup on MECA. Speedway Fire is now being dispatched by IFD. Beech Grove is being Dispatched by IFD. All the Fire Dispatch Talkgroups for Airport, Lawerence City,Speedway,Beech Grove have "RoboReta" as a dispatcher.Sounds like IFD is also getting ready to take over all three.Changes are going to happen. If not the Departments would have still have live dispatching for there agency

As part of the impending consolidation process with Indianapolis Fire Department, LTFD stations have been renumbered:

Station 331 - now Station 9
Station 332 - now Station 17
Station 333 - now Station 28
Station 334 - now Station 34

Command/staff vehicles will still retain their 300-series numbers.

This is strait from LTFD

IFD is NOT dispatching for Airport F.D., the excluded cities or the excluded town (City of Lawrence, Beech Grove and Speedway) unless it's a mutual aid run. All the Marion County PSAPs are connected to the new Locution Fire House Alerting System. Each PSAP dispatches it's own apparatus. Any PSAP can dispatch any apparatus in Marion County by adding it to the CAD run stream (that's how mutual aid runs are handled). There is one database for the Locution system. All PSAPs use the same database. Hendrick's County agencies will begain using the system later this year. The current PSAP consolidation law may cause some changes in the future.

You are exactly correct. You beat me to say the same thing. All Township fire departments are dispatched by IFD Fire Control out at MECA. Speedway, Beechgrove, and Lawrence (City) have there own centers same with the Airport..

OK then why is IFD dispatching Speedway Engine 201,Beech Grove Engine 102,*On Marion County Fire Dispatch and Not only is*RoboReta* dispatching them but also *RoboReta* is dispacthing City of Lawerence and Airport Fire on *Their Fire Dispatch Talkgroups* If IFD was not gong to merge with all the above there would be "Live dispatching*.Also I talked with The Speedway Fire Chief who happens to be a very close family friend that I have known for years and he told me that when he went to The last Marion County Fire Chiefs meeting that *Was not open to the public* a couple of weeks ago A board member from IFD told all of them that *IFD was taking over control of all County Township Fire Departments and changes are being made for the Merger*He was also told that there would would be no more Township Fire Departments and all the Trucks setting in there stations would have a IFD doorshield on the side of the door along with "Indianapolis Fire Department" on the cab of the Engine, Medic,Ladder, etc. Also a contact with Mayor Ballards office was there and he said the Mayor is moving on this to get the job done. Also all current County Firefighters would become IFD Firefighters after the station numbers are changed, truck numbers get NEW numbers and the current firefighters do paperwork with IFD to get there benifits thru The City Of Indianapolis. This is the current infomation direct from the source!!!!
