Dept of Homeland Security Agency officials plan to make an announcement this week in Dallas about the implementation of new software that lets existing and new communications equipment interoperate securely.

I think this will use a form of MESH networking. Test will be at DFW airport. USCG is already doing a test.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Lots of stuff gets "anounced" and never happens.

These types of things have been around but its still expensive. I think most agencies/departments are still running under the "do we really need it" rule.

I basically agree with NJay. The things that I see may move this more than most is:

1. Dept. of Homeland Security can provide a lot of funding.

2. DHS and many others want everything to be secure.

3. MESH type systems can provide that needed fill in at large buldings,
tunnels, etc.

4. Coast Guard limited tests are showing 1, 2 and3.

This will interesting to watch. When MESH starting showing promise, Motorola was quick to step in and buy the company. Of course this is being pushed by the owner of the product, with a grant from DHS.
