I am a student at Concordia University Wisconsin (In Mequon). I was talking with the head of campus safety today and he told me that not only was he planning to order new radios for Concordia which would tie into the Ozaukee trunked system, but also that Ozaukee was planning to build a system that would be "un-scannable." Does anyone know anything about this? I read the forum which talked about the county implementing an Open Sky system but the most recent post on it is about 2 years ago. Here is the link to that discussion: http://www.radioreference.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-4910.html

EDACS-it just keeps getting better......

The County is upgrading the "backbone" of the EDACS system. New Bases, controllers, antenna systems ect. It will remain that way for several years. The "backbone" equipment going in is the same as they use for their P25 offering so its possible someday that would happen. There is no change happening as far as protocol goes for now. However, the "backbone" has had the "ProVoice" capability since 2000 or so and all the PDs except Port have at least one talkgroup set up for it. So they could have been unscannable 6 years ago if they so desired. Reality is they don't use it that much. I have one Lt. that will do a 2nd shift all ProVoice once in a while but thats about it. Concordia will seek approval to come on the system at the next users group meeting. I think it would be great, but I don't get a vote. We'll see what happens, it's not a done deal yet.
