New TN ANG CP Freq.

The new CP freq for McGhee Tyson ANGB, TN (134 ARW) is 303.0250 (Soda Control). No longer is 303.000 in use. Also known as "3030" among aircrews, this freq is moving away from all CP usages.

Below is a listing of some of what I had in my scanner. Not everything I had is listed but this is the majority. The ground operations used to be between 163-174mhz, but have moved to 138-144mhz in digital mode. Those ground frequencies are on radioreference under Blount County. Used to have all of the 163-174 ground freqs but since they changed over, haven't made an effort to search. I have been out of the loop for a while so please feel free to correct me on any changes. Also, could you please shoot over any freqs you have that aren't listed here. Thanks. Hope this helps a little.

What does CP and SODA control stand for?

Not Bryan but CP = Command Post and Soda Control is just the name of the Command Post. Like in Memphis you may hear the local C-5s calling GRACELAND or the transits calling Elvis Ops or something to that nature.

Joe...thanks for the reply. So SODA control is unique to the mil-ops at Magee-Tyson (Knoxville) airport? Strange name...wonder where it came from. I thought it was some sort of military acronym for something.

SODA is also the call sign of the Tyson tankers like SODA 91, 81 etc. I'm 99% sure that the call sign comes from their location. KTYS is actually located in Alcoa, Tn where they make aluminum Soda cans (Alcoa Aluminum) so there you have SODA. Like in Nashville being Music City our C-130s, while they last, use the call MUSIC xx and Memphis C-5s soon to be C-17s use the call sign ELVIS xx. Hope that helped some.
