New to CB

[Foothills]

I'm new to the forum as well as using a CB. I have a Cobra 29 LTX mounted on my truck with a magnetic base. I tow a 5th wheel and find the CB convenient for contacting traveling friends and others. For instance last year in Maryland on our way to DC the shackle on the curb side of the trailer broke and the axel slide back and was rubbing on the rear wheel. Smoke was evident to some truckers who contacted me and guided my wife and I to safe stopping place. This is the primary reason for me having a CB.
I have a question regarding the antenna on the truck. It is approximately 4 feet. My 5th wheel is just shy of 13 feet. Can I improve sending and receiving? If so, what length and type would be best for me?
Appreciate any suggestions, comments and advice. I look forward to following the various chats/questions comments available on this forum.

If you're still out there -
we need to know more details. What kind of antenna (model), where it's mounted, it's condition, what kind of coax and it's condition.
What do you need to improve - clarity, range, etc.?
Do you have the SWR set correctly?

General standard mobile antenna advice-
Your best bet will be center of the roof of the truck for placement. Anywhere else will be a compromise. A larger antenna will not help in and of itself (to keep that complex argument simple) - your 4' whip is pretty typical for CB use...at least you're not on a little stubby..
Better quality antenna vs el-cheapo antenna can make a big difference.
Mag Mounts are not the greatest as a general rule but the improvement in terms of mount style will require drilling holes.
