Hey Guys,

I'm a Police Explorer from North Carolina, and I've moved down here for college. I've been trying to scan Daytona's (Volusia's) System, and it seems like I get a weak signal with "beeps" at the end of every transmission. My scanner is a BC296D, and I can hear the transmissions fine, but the beeps and static are getting annoying.

Also, does anyone in DB have a zone map, or is anyone willing to describe the areas to me?
Thanks,

Tom

The data base that is on this site works great. Also go to MillAir.com. George talks about the local trunking systems. I also have a 296, and it works great there. Because of the type of trunking system, you can here little beeps with the transmissions. If you need a data base I can E-mail the one I use for Daytona to you. Just give me an E-mail address.

I am from Birmingham AL area, but visit my mother in Daytona. I take it you are going to ERU. Good luck.

Tom,

I don't think you have your scanner programmed correctly for the EDACS trunked system. I hear the beeps and stuff when using a conventional scanner, but when scanning in trunked mode, that stuff is gone. I'm not familiar with the specific steps to program your Uniden, but if it's like most, not only do you have to specify that you are programming an EDACS trunked system into the bank, but you probably have to enter the frequencies in LCN order.(skipping channel 0)

There's 3 EDACS systems in use by Volusia County. System A, System B, and the Speedway system. The first two are active all the time, and I *think* have the same geographic coverage. The users are split between the two, and I *think* that in the event one system fails, everyone uses the other system. Some stuff is carried on both. I programmed System A into 1 bank, and System B into a second bank. I usually scan System B which has a good signal over on the the beachside.
The third system is the Speedway system which seems to have very little traffic except during events. I programmed it into a third bank. I'm not sure but it may *not* have the same countywide coverage as the other systems.

In addition to this site, the one mentioned above is the other place I look for help. This page http://home.cfl.rr.com/scanner/vcso.htm and the page 2 that follows are the VC EDACS system. I try and remember to submit stuff to the database here, and updates to the other site.

I don't have a zone map for the DBPD. I do know they keep the beachside stuff off on it's own trunkgroups, and that's what I usually monitor. You could always monitor and log data for a couple hours and then go back and plot it on a map to figure out the zones.

PM me if you need anything else.

When programming an EDACS system you must have all the freq. in order. That might include skipping one where the controller is setup that way. Everytime a change is made every radio MUST be reprogrammed unlike Motorola that just uses the control channels.

I don't have a BC296 but make sure it is setup as an EDACS system.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your replies, you're all VERY helpful.

Fortunately, I reprogrammed using Daytona's system (System B, i think) and everything works fine now. I didn't realize there were two systems before, so I had them all on one bank, which caused a mess!

I still hear a beep at the end of the transmission, but its nothing big. I also have an application in with DBPD, so you might be hearing me on the radio soon enough.

Thanks all!
