New to digital scanning in NC

Hello everyone.

I am in the process of programming a digital scanner for a family member.
He purchased a Uniden BCD 396XT.

I have already downloaded FreeScan, and I ordered the USB cable for it.

I am in the process of learning this scanner, and learning how to program it.

I live in Henderson, and I am looking for recommendations of things to listen for, as well as possible information about VIPER. The radio comes with NCVIper installed already, but I don't know if it is complete.

Is there a Viper FreeScan file to download, or is there any files/setup options that any of you fellow NC guys/gals can share?

Vance county uses VIPER, with simulcasts on VHF. Just program the Vance county tower and maybe some of the Granville(oxford water tower), Warren(Manson and Warrenton) and Franklin(Youngsville and Hosley Forest) towers. This all depends on where in the county you live.


I just noticed there is only one tower in Vance county

There is a proposed Viper Site and license for Middleburg area of Vance County.

With time constraints and budget issues it is undetermined when the site will be built.
