New To Forum - Have a few questions.

Hey Everyone, I'm the new guy on the forum I guess. Live in Yorktown, work in James City. Have an older radioshack portable scanner which, recently broke. Looking to get a new one, does anybody have any suggestions for a good all around portable scanner thats not skyrocket price? I was looking at the Uniden Bearcat 246T, seems to be decent. I am fairly new to the scanning hobby so bear with me. Is there a good reference of where I can find frequencies for the Hampton Roads area? Mostly police/fire, and more so for Yorktown & James City. I allready have some freqs. for both departments but would like to make sure I am receiving everything. Also, does anyone have any information on the new digital system I heard about going in that james city pd will be using soon? If so, would I need to get a scanner more like the Bearcat 296D that supports APCO? Sorry for the long post and thanks for any input.

I thought someone said that James City/York would be a 9600 baud system, so make sure that you investigate that before making a purchase.

The best place to find frequencies is right here! Just click at the top of the page where it says "RR Database". Also. like the above person mentioned, make sure to investigate the use of digital in your area before making a purchase. This will dictate wether you buy a BC246T (Which is a great scanner) or a digital model which will cost alot more.
