• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I just got my GMRS license and looking for where to get started. Are there any recommended repeaters in the area with good coverage in the Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Jersey City areas?

Thanks in advance!

Here's one listed on myGMRS.com:

Check the use details/restrictions before using. That particular one says they require permission if you're going to use it regularly.

There may be others; that was just a quick search on that one site and you may find other searches will yield more results.

Best of luck!

I hate to say it, but that particular repeater has been out of commission since July 11 of last year. It transmits 0-1-5 DTMF tones every 15 seconds and does not function correctly as a repeater. There's a long thread about it over on the MyGMRS.com forums. The machine needs attention but no one has fixed the problem yet even after all of these months.

I'd post a link to the thread, but it's in the Private Discussion section of the board and you would need an account and need to be logged in order to read the thread.

There are indeed others, several actually, but almost all require permission from the owner to use. The MyGMRS.com Web site and associated forum (bulletin board) are excellent sources of information.

Regards - and good luck!

Thanks for the info so far. I've signed up for the mygmrs.com site and requested access to a few repeaters. How long does it usually take to hear back from someone?

In my experience, usually just a day or two, longer of course if the person is away on vacation or traveling for business, etc., and isn't checking their personal e-mail. If you wait a week or longer and don't hear back one way or the other, then you should try to locate an e-mail address for the individual and write directly to them. Hopefully, that will yield better results.

Now that you're registered for the MyGMRS site, you should also have login access to the Forums. The thread about the (presently non-functional) repeater mentioned earlier in this thread is in the 'Private Discussion' section of the board. The thread title/topic is 'Interference on 675'.
