I am taking my first steps into the world of mil air... Using the 396 I am wondering what is the standard hold time to monitor rather than an open carrier

If you're talking about hold time after stopping, I usually set mine to 3 seconds for mil-air just because it gives me more time to look away from whatever I'm doing and look at the scanner and hit the hold button if necessary. I don't hear that much milair out here so I want to savor it!

Hope that helps. Be sure and read the wiki page if you haven't yet. And a good outside antenna helps.

I always set hold/delay time to 5. For some sessions I'd like it to HOLD on that channel unless I press something to resume the scan, but I don't think we can do that :(

(AND no-one be "helpful" and suggest pressing the hold button grr)
