New to NH

Hi all.....good to see there is a dedicated forum to NH. I just moved to NH, living in the SE part of the state. It seems as if most of NH is digital which leaves me in the dark(or silence) as I have an old Uniden BC855 xlt.

Money is kinda tight, but can anyone recommend a digital scanner on the cheap? And do I need a trunking one? I'm mostly interested in local fire and PD around the seacoast area for now.

Welcome to NH! The NHSP and many of the local police in this part of the state are digital now, although most are not trunked systems. Only Manchester, Nashua and Goffstown are using trunked systems.

So, you only need a trunking scanner if you want to hear those three towns. On the other hand, all of the scanners I'm familiar with that handle digital also handle trunking.

You can try the "Equipment for Sale" board here, or Ebay for good deals on used digital scanners. If you want new, Radio Shack sometimes runs sales around the holidays. They are expensive machines.

Nashua uses a P25 Digital Trunk System, but Manchester and Goffstown uses Some Pro-Voice Digital, which you cant monitor with Scanners, but they hardly ever use it. Nashua you can monitor with any Digital Scanner, What town are you from?

If you are in the seacoast area you will want to mostly listen to Rockingham County Sheriffs Office which is in Brentwood. They dispatch on the Police side in P25. However on the FD/EMS side they dispatch on 154.190 which is analog. This will get you most of what y9ou are wishing to listen to. Then depending on what town you live in, you might be able to pick up thier own dispatch. Not many towns on the seacoast dispatch themselves, but some do. What town are you living in?
