I live in Hancock county. Is there a software i can get? or do i have to buy a scanner? Would a scanner pick up all frequencies? I read somwhere HC Sheriff uses something called "project 24"? What do I have to do to pick this up? Thanks

Hancock county, Ohio, Mississippi, Kentucky Indiana, Iowa or other? To listen to it on your computer over the internet you'll be at the mercy of if someone in the area has decided to take a self contained scanner and allow it to run 24/7 into their computer to broadcast the feed; it's a completely voluntary act, and reliability varies as it's often put together with what people have as spare equipment.

Here's the database of what's available online: Live Police, Fire, EMS, Aircraft, and Rail Scanners on RadioReference.com

They are most likely using Project 25 (Project 25 - The RadioReference Wiki), or P25 for short, if a scanner can detect this it will say in the features area. For self contained scanners, you're looking at Uniden 996T,996XT, 396T,396XT, Home Patrol, GRE-500, GRE800, and Radioshack Pro106 among several others.

No one is streaming your county's public service here on RR. Hancock county has a digital P-25 trunking system. You will need one of the newer P-25 scanners to decode the system. You may want to check the for sale forum further down the forums page for a deal.
