I was hoping to receive a brief explanation how to download the frequencies from this site to my ws 1065 radio scanner. Do I have to buy a membership? And then?

For the WS1065, you can use Butel ARC500 or PSREdit500 programming software. ARC500 Basic is all you need to program your scanner. The Pro version provides additional logging functions. I use ARC500 Basic to program my Radio Shack PRO-197, the older brother of your scanner. They both use the same software. You will not be able to monitor Tennessee Highway Patrol. They are P25 Phase 2 on the TACN statewide trunked system. The WS1065 is capable of P25 Phase 1 only.

You don't really need software at all. I have a ws 1065 and they aren't that difficult to program, just time consuming if you want to put in talkgroups and not run mostly Wildcard like I do. What counties are you even wanting?

Also I would recommend this - Easier to Read Pro-651/652/106/197 - WS1040/1065 - PSR 500/600 Digital Scanner Manual over the stock manual that the scanner comes with. This is more detailed and explains some things better.

I'm in Carter Co. TN. Just want the fire dept, police/sheriff depts. I have put in several object but I got nothing but the occasional static sound. I failed to mention that I have a Macbook Air laptop. Does the software work with a Mac?

Looks like most of the trunking stations in Carter are DMR or p25 Phase 2, which the Whistler 1065 doesn't support unfortunately. There's an LTR system here called Epperson Communications but there doesn't appear to be any talkgroups listed. Everything else in your county is conventional and can simply be programmed into the scanner as a conventional frequency, so you don't need to worry about trunking at all. That being said, if you have conventional frequencies programmed in and you're hearing nothing but static, you likely need a better antenna. It might help if you edit each conventional frequency and set them as "narrow fm" because most of your analog frequencies in your county are fmn.
