new to scanners

Looking to get a police/fire/emerngey scanner and am not knowledgeable about them . Have looked around the net and at Radio Shack, I live in the Buffalo New York Area my zip is 14001. I would like to get all the Police departments, EMS, Fire, Airport, etc.

Which of these scanners would be the best, and do I need Digital?

I would say that a digital scanner is not required for those services. In fact, other than Genesee Co. the Emergency Services are non-trunked.
Have a look at Erie County and other neighboring counties in the database to see what is listed.
