Hello all. I am new to the scanning world and am very excited. I just purchased the BC-95XLTB scanner and am very very confused. I have been reading wikis and trying to learn what everything means, but am a little slow.

I want to listen to my local Police Department (Torrance, CA). I pulled the frequencies 506.625 and 506.125 and tried entering them in, but I don't hear anything but static. What am i doing wrong?? I pushed hold and then entered the frequency. Is that correct? Please help!!!

Thanks in advance...

Welcome to RR. First, the 2 frequencies you listed are not in our database, which is very unusual for California. There is no FCC license for 506.125. While there is one for Reference Database 506.625, I wonder where you got these frequencies. Since one of them does not appear correct, they may both be wrong. If someone from CA does not answer here, suggest you go to the CA forum and ask. You should also look over database here: Los Angeles County,

Hello thanks for your reply. Here is what I pulled

Frequency License Type Tone Alpha Tag Description Mode Tag
506.16250 WIK591 RM 123.0 PL TOR PD Disp1 Torrance Police Primary FM Law Dispatch
506.21250 WIK591 RM 146.2 PL TOR PD2 Torrance Police Secondary FM Law Tac
482.50000 WIK591 RM 85.4 PL TOR PD3 Torrance Police CH-3 FM Law Tac
482.60000 WIK591 RM 97.4 PL TOR PD4 Torrance Police CH-4

Anyhow, like I mentioned. I am like a kid learning how to ride a bicycle. Hopefully I am posting in the right area. I need to know how to even put in the frequencies above. I tried and got an error.

That is because the 95 will not accept those EXACT frequencies. It will program 506.165, 506.210. It is just how the scanner is set up. It may also be that the PD is using simplex frequencies and without a better antenna, it will be hard to hear them.

thanks for your reply.. I do greatly appreciate the information. When I looked at the specs online, it mentioned that it would take those frequencies. Maybe I read it wrong..

So if I want to get those frequencies, what would you recommend me to buy?

Since you like Uniden, the 346 would work for you. There, also, is the PSR300/RS Pro-164. The 346 has a different way of programming the frequencies. I would take a look in the Wiki here at RR. Frequency entry on the 300/164 is more like the 95.
