New to Scanning in AA Co..which scanner should I get?

I am leaning toward the BCD396XT----mostly because I have been reading the posts about the lack of a mute for the P25 encryption...I do not want to listen to a buzzing sound....is this a real problem? Beyond this, should I go Uniden or GRE? Thanks a lot!

If you don't scan or search encrypted talkgroups, then it will not be a problem.

I have a 396T (pre-XT) and PSR500 -- I listen to my PSR500 regular and have no issues with non-muting of ENC talkgroups. Perhaps it's different in other areas but the ENC talkgroups are ENC 100% of the time so it really doesn't make much sense to keep them "unlocked".. this kinda nullifies the issue...

The rest just comes down to features, reception, and decoding quality... I've sacrificed some features in the Uniden for the better quality decoding and improved reception of the PSR500
