NEW to scanning in Florida

Need some help, moving to Florida this summer. The Polk county area. Have a R/S Pro-652. what to put in this scanner? I know how to put frequency the scanner.
Have a Membership with Radio Reference.

Have you looked at the Polk County page in the RR database?

I see there's a trunked system down at the bottom which I assume most public safety would be using.

Welcome to the Sunshine State. FYI... It looks like most of the Polk County trunked system (P25) users are in the clear. Highlands County Sheriff appears to be ENC. The separate Statewide Law Enforcement trunked system is nearly 100% ENC.

"ENC" = Encrypted. No scanner can hear encrypted traffic.

For your information...it is illegal to use a scanner while mobile in Florida--unless you have an Amateur Radio License. Your desktop scanner at home is perfectly fine. Also, Polk County has a SIMULCAST system--read up on that You may have problems using an older scanner...all depends on where you are in relation to the towers.
