New to scanning

Is there a simplified way of entering codes into my pro-96 scanner? Also, when I see "City of Santa Clara" does that mean the city police? I have been looking on the net for a comprhensive listing of police/sherif frequencies in the Santa Clara county(Work) and Santa Cruz County(Live). <California>

Any help would be appreciated.

Simplest way is to purchase a scanner to pc cable http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=20-048 and use win 96 to program the scanner www.starrsoft.com/software/Win96. Also, post in the California forum and see if anyone has a file for your area that was created with win96

Ron, I am new to scanning and I also just got a pro 96 in the last 3 weeks or so. You have got to get an interface cable from Radio shack ( catalog # 20-289), then get a copy of "win96" radio programing softarwe. You can get a trial copy free off the net. After that you should be able to load freq off the internet like I did. Also you need to read the instruction manual for the scanner really good. I had to read mine twice to get the hang of it, and I am sure I will read parts of it again.
