New to Scanning

Hey, I just purchased a Uniden Bearcat BC95XLT and have had no luck picking up anything in the area. The main purpose is to use this at NASCAR events, but I figured I could use it to do local scanning as well. Much to my dismay, I have no picked up a single frequency. Any suggestions?

First of all you don't say where your located...... The main problem with this scanner is that it will not scan trunking or digital radio. Most larger cities are going trunking and digital.

Look in the data base here on RR and program in the UHF and VHF frequencies for things that you might want to monitor.

Chesterfield County VA may still be transmitting their dispatch on 154.16 but I believe that their actual operations are now trunked. We always used to hear them in the DC area when the ducting was right since that frequency was also dispatch for Montgomery County MD.
