Newbie
Greetings, I am going on my second year as a new Ham. I cannot afford to buy a lot of equipment; HF rig, etc...so
I have had to find ways to ply my new found skills on a budget. I bought an RTL-SDR v4 and hooked it up to my
J-Pole I built. HOLY CROW!!! I can pick up all kinds of stuff!!
I cannot transmit with this SDR, but that is fine for now. Most of the communication I do is either simplex or rag chews
...I do act as a Skywarn spotter, but it has been quiet as of late as the weather has been behaving. I am on stand by for
emergency communication should the need arise
I live in an apartment which means I cannot have my J-Pole outside hooked up permanently. I found a Balun kit which
I will be building today. This should work very well with my SDR as well as Simplex with my Kenwood TR 7800. This
way I can 'hide' my antenna and not have to set out my J-Pole whenever I want to communicate.
I know I have a great deal to learn; my studies this year have been for my General class privs...I pass my test
Hope to visit with many on here...
