Hello, I am new to the area and wondering how do the systems work here? I am located in Ann Arundel and looking for EMS, Fire, and Police scanner info. I look through the database and only see Anne Arundel station 1 and also the First System. Do all the volunteer departments use the same freq as Anne Arundel or on the First system?

Anne Arundel County operates on their own 800 MHz SmartZone system:

The individual departments do not have their own frequencies. Most stations are manned by career personnel, supplemented by volunteers.

Various state agencies utilize the 700 MHz FIRST system, and there is a FIRST simulcast site located in the county, as well as 2 ASR sites that carry a subset of the simulcast site traffic. You probably only need to monitor the simulcast site.

What scanner and programming software do you have?

All Anne Arundel police/fire/ems/local government is on the AA 800MHz trunked system, including Annapolis City.

BWI airport has their own 800MHz trunked system.

Md State Police also has a TG on the AA system but I don't know how much it is utilized, they may use the FiRST system primarily.

The state police tg on the county system is crosslinked to FIRST, thus carries the same traffic. BWI Fire has tgs on both their TRS and the county's system: I *believe* that there are BWI FD routine comms that only happen on the airport's system.

BWI FD rarely uses the AA county system. When they need help from another jurisdiction (AA, Howard, Baltimore counties) they typically contact them on FDMA 154.28 and a responding unit would switch to the BWI system.

*sigh* wouldn't it be great if technology and policy advanced to the point of mutual aid interfacing...

yeah FMARS is still the primary net for fire mutual aid coordination. It does certainly follow the KISS principle, which I like.

Also up here in NE Maryland the Med-Evac repeater? Chopper dispatch comes in well on the old 44.740 FM mode.
Just heard Trooper 3 on there tonight.:)

BWI Fire Dispatch, Tac 1, and Tac 2 are automatically patched to the Anne Arundel System at all times. When AA Fire respond to BWI emergencies they switch to the BWI system for operations.

BWI Fire & MDTAP BWI Detachment do not use FIRST for operations.
I didn't know that. Thanks.
I'm surprised that they didn't pull them into the state system.
