i am new to the forum and found it by accident. you have a great forum here and i have been reading all day about stuff i have never known. i am in the coweta county area (moreland) and have a pro 162. i work just below the airport and scan coweta, carroll and the fulton county area (south). i thought i knew alot about scanners but was i wrong. some of the "shacks" in the pics are crazy. i never knew folks were that sophisticated with it.
i started looking for a antenna for my truck because the coweta county radio system is weak and when driving i get a lot of back ground noise. i have the scan lite cd and radio shack programmer that i find amazing.
i have been scanning for about 15 yrs since i was jr. vol firefighter with carroll county. i have had several scanners but the TRS is giving me some fitts and i have a lot of questions about that.
but first any ideas on a good mobile antenna that is not huge that will clear up reception?

thanks for the great info and the great site.

For mobile scanning, I've always had great success with the Larsen NMO 150/450/800 antenna. You can buy it lots of places online, including Scannermaster. I would be happy to help you sometime get more into the hobby. I've been scanning since the late 70s and always have a scanner handy, portable and mobile. Send me a private message sometime if you need help. I used to live in Newnan but now live up the road in Smyrna (Cobb County)

thanks metro,

i have done basic scanning for a bit but learning all the trunked system and rebanding is a little overwhelming. most of the stuff is still on vhf hi-lo and uhf so thats not an issue. thanks for the offer though and i get to smyrna a few times a year as we race rc cars at nexxus up there. also i will look that antenna up and see if that helps my reception and clarity. i have spent alot of time on here reading and so far it seems to be a great site with tons of info.

Scott, you can travel a few miles north on 85 to Ham Radio Outlet in Doraville. They carry that antenna, and have a couple of guys who know scanners. I believe in keeping my money local. I'm a bit north of you and Mike in N Gwinnett. Been scanning as long as Mike, and have been a licensed ham for over twenty-five years. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome FLIPPZ

Be sure you get in contact with MetroFire - he is a fire buff and like many on this board is a great resource on this exciting hobby.

Wishing you safe travels and happy scanning!

By the way...since you are in Carroll County - if you can post info as it comes up on your TalkGroups. Carroll County is now part of the W.A.R.S. digital 800 trunked system.
