Hello Everyone:

I'm new to the hobby and I only have a old analog scanner for now but hope to upgrade. I am interested to know if there is a way to scan rail traffic in the City of Regina. I live close to a main yard in Regina, but I am not sure of all the frequencies they are using. I did find that 161.415 was being used today but that's about it, so far. Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Put the scanner in Search Mode from 160 MHz to 162 MHz. Let it cycle through for a while and enter anything you hear.

If you happen to see it stop but the audio sounds like a "warble" they may mean they have transitioned to digital NXDN mode. Otherwise, you should hear things in analog in FM clearly.

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Unfortunately, my scanner is really old and can only accept manually entered frequencies. I have added in the CN frequencies and the 2m repeaters in the Regina area.
It was really cool to hear the traffic from VE5YQR again as I did pass my 2m exams in the early 1990's and was very active for many years but family life just got in the way of the hobby. I did get my 2m certificate a few years back as I was thinking of getting back into the hobby but work got in the way.

I am now semi-retired and after the last couple days of hearing traffic again, I want to reactivate the hobby. Going to have to find that certificate, somewhere! Does anyone know if there is a way to access your information on-line?

I have also seen that there are dongle's that can be purchased for your PC for scanning and general radio listening. Can anyone recommend one as I think that might be easy way to get into the hobby with some newer hardware/software.

Thanks in advance.

If your address info is current and you can see yourself (callsign issued originally), then you are good to go.

Thanks for the information, I have been able to grab a couple of those signals today.

I have reached out into the SDR world with a USB dongle. There is a lot to learn that is for sure, but it's very interesting.

I have found a Con+ carrier at 860.8375, but I am unable to find that frequency listed in the db under Regina. Does any have any info on this?

Thanks

Consumers Co-op Refinery , so there are other freqs associated to it if its CON DMR, you can try to map it out for us so you could submit to db

There appears to be two distinct systems , UHF simplex+ UHF 800, so possibly linked together , maybe not. Looking more closely the 450's are all simplex , so 800 is the repeater over the whole complex, production , security, millwrights, etc
