I just got into the hobby and have a question. I've received a couple of old bearcat scanners, and I'm looking to get a new home base station. I've read about the rebanding and the analog/digital choice. I live in lehighton PA. I'm wondering is it worth it to get a digital trunking scanner or would I be fine with an analog. I use the scanners to monitor local/state PD, FD, EMS, and DOT. Thanks for your help.

I would start by doing some research, use the RR database and see if the local agencies that your are wishing to monitor and see if they are analog/digital frequencies.

Then, I would determine how long you plan on having the scanner, because if the agencies you monitor are analog, how long is it going to be before they convert to digital.

The cost on a mobile/base digital scanner is about 2X the cost of a analog only scanner. Also, you can figure that if you purchase a digital scanner it will also cover analog communications so you have already put yourself in position if any of these agencies do convert over to digital.

One last thought that if you do travel on vacation, you can take it with you and if the area your vacationing is uses digital communications, then you will be able to listen to them also.

Hope this helps some

You have already asked this question, and it was answered. It shows below as being moved the PA forum.

A mod can delete this thread. I posted another one when this one did not initially post. I thought I had messed something up on my end. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi evil, if you feel the need to remove this thread or close it, you can use the Report Post Icon on the very top right of your posts (Give an explanation), just so you know for the future as I see you are a new member. Welcome!
