Hey all, I recently picked up a radio shack pro-106 and have done quite a bit of reading but am still not getting any activity. I'm attempting to program in the scott county sherrifs law enforcement channels manually and not having much luck.

I currently have the frequencies programmed in and have the wildcard option on.

I've searched the database and found the frequencies, and I've seen the codes for the talk groups, but it is confusing understanding everything.

Looking for a little guidance, any help would be greatly appreciated!

You got the TSYS set and the LCN for that system, Make sure you got good signal on the control channel 854.3625 or 856.3625 from the Dixon Site or 859.68750, 857.68750, or 856.6875 for the Bettendorf Site or 860.5875, 859.5875, 858.5875, or 856.5875 for the Davenport Site or 854.2125, 855.7125, or 858.1375 for the Long Grove/ Park Site or 857.2625 for the Le Claire Site. Check these in TUNE mode and make sure witch ones you pick up good signal strength, make sure you got it set for EDACS STD, and make sure when you find out witch control channels for whatever site(s) your going to use, make sure they got good signal, then program each site and its freqs into its own Scan List, make sure you put the numbers in the order they are, so if they dont put the first freq until the 07 channel well dont put it anywhere but there and so on if they skip it you skip it, put them in the same order and number in your scanner they do. Hopefully this will help if not let me know.
LOVE AND BLESSINGS

Thank you wingmaker, most of that makes sense and I've been reading the "Easier to Read
Pro-106/197/PSR 500/600 Digital Scanner Manual" locaed here:

Easier to Read Pro-106/197/PSR500/600 Digital Scanner Manual

I did finally bite the bullet and picked up the cable software from RS. I'll play around with the tune mode and do more reading but as of right now I'm not picking up anything but the occasional blip on the conventional channels.

I have conventional channels for Davenport and Bettendorf PD programmed in, it doesn't make sense they are designated conventional, aren't they on EDACS? Which makes them "trunked?"

I also have talk groups uploaded to the scanner for scott county sherriff, bettendorf and Davenport PD.

I'm going to do more reading and see if a light bulb will go off. Anyone willing to sound in, please do!

I have no experience with the 106, but when my wife bought me a 996t, it took me 3 long evenings to learn how to program it. Don't give up.

Is the software capable of pulling info from this site? If it is, you'll have it programmed in no time. That is by far the best way to go.

Interesting problem

I did finally pick up the USB cable and have been using ARC500. here is a screenshots that may help you diagnose my problem.

This one is from the ARC software and it's the trunk system I have programmed in directly from the radio reference database.

Upload Screenshot

My issue is that the only time I can hear the one EDACS Standard trunk system when I press:

man, right arrow, TSYS, Analyz then press up or down to scan through those frequencies. I have never seen the "T" on the display of the pro-106 indicating I'm receiving properly.

FYI, The memory was cleared prior to uploading the current file.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

You do have the frequencies programmed right for that Site, so you good there now I just need to know if you picking up the control channel. This is what is sounds like Scanner Noise 6 - YouTube you will need to hear this noise, and you will see info on your screen

Do you ever hear noise, when your going through the frequencies when you in the Analyze mode. You should hear and it should say stuff like EDW in the corner with signal strength and some other stuff.

Hopefully some of this will help:) LOVE AND BLESSINGS
