I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum, but I'll give it a try. You all seem to be very informative and helpful. I'm in Louisville, KY and the agency I work for is in the midst of switching to 800mhz, APCO P25 Digital system (reportedly completed this upcoming fall). I am wanting to get opinions on which scanner (handheld) would be the "best" or most appropriate. Thank you in advance for your insight.

bcd396t, bcd396xt, or gre500 would be my choice. RS has a pro106 which is like the gre500 and made by gre but I dont care for the bottom speaker.

Each has different options. Watch for close outs on 396t

Thanks. I know that there will be new ones on the market this year also. I'm not that tech-smart, but I am intrigued about how the P25 and other digital systems work. I look forward to our system being complete to see how it sounds.

If you are looking for a handheld, there won't be any new ones for a while.

The Uniden BCD396XT was released a month ago, and the GRE PSR-500 and RS PRO-106 were released in the last 18 months.

The only new digital will be the base model BCD996XT slated for a late summer release.
