What does a person do when they want to learn how to identify trunked systems? Right now I just want to get a little taste of it. I am not quite ready to rip apart my only receiver and install a discriminator tap, but I understand you can do a little of this with just the straight audio out.

So, I downloaded Universal Trunker. Set up my radio. And now I'm seeing systems pop up as I tune in various control channels. (It appears to be working as expected). I've synced all systems with the RR DB using the built in sync button. RRDB knew something about 5 of the systems. However, I found 7 systems for which it appears there are no RRDB entries for. They are probably business systems. Two of the seven are MPT1327 (I'm guessing those are UTA sites?). So, I probably can't listen to those (I am guessing there is some way to do it, since this software can decode it). That leaves 5 left, all of which appear to be Motorola systems.

On some systems I'm getting a 50% decode rate. On many, I'm getting 99%. I would guess that isn't too bad using just the audio out. Now that I have a list of unknown systems, what resources should I start to check out next?

I used the FCC ULS tools to identify who might own the control frequency of a system identified as 4936. The strongest signal I'm getting is for this licensed system: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=209246

Where do I go next to identify all the frequencies & sites that might be involved? What format should I follow when submitting these trunked systems to the RR DB?

Ryan I would go to the Administration forum and see what format the team would like to see. Then build several wiki pages to accumulate the data in that format. This way lots of folks will hopefully look at it and contribute and correct or add to what you already found. Then when you get enough to submit, do so. When the data is posted to the database, use your extension to 'lock down' the data on your wiki article.

[edit] I should have known someone would have already asked, and answered this question. Note that the submission guidelines are in our wiki, and it's linked in this thread...
